Using AI in my Marketing

AI debate

When I moved the articles from my store blog, I somehow missed the one about AI. So I need to rewrite it. There is a lot of hate for anyone who uses AI, from cute videos to creating images. I’ve also seen people nit picking an author’s cover accusing her of using AI. It’s very disheartening to read comments that insinuate that an author using AI on their cover must mean they use AI to write their books. Not only is this an ignorant accusation, but it’s beyond ridiculous. We’re writers, not designers, so the two are not related at all. Since all my books were published before AI became popular, I designed most of them myself. I’ll be honest though, I wished AI had been available. My last few books could have had very professional looking covers.

If someone won’t read my book because they incorrectly think I used AI, they probably wouldn’t buy it anyway. I’m certainly not going to judge an author’s book because they might have used AI on the cover. If it’s appealing, regardless of how it was created, I’ll be more inclined to read what’s inside. If the story is good and the writing flows, again, I don’t care if AI was used to create it. Many authors use AI to proof and edit their work. And yes, I guess some people use it to completely write their books, but I can’t imagine someone doing that successfully or long term. Writing books is hard work, and so is publishing books, not to mention marketing them. It’s a long, arduous process, so forgive us if we take advantage of any tools that make the process a bit less painful.

I use AI to create ads and videos that I post to my social media. I have received some nasty comments on a few of them, which I choose to ignore. There will always be people who are ugly to those around them, especially when protected by the anonymity of their computer screens. If you are so anti-AI that you get a thrill insulting others’ hard work, I won’t bother trying to change your mind. Just know that you are not who those ads are for.

I have an AI video that I created for this blog article, where my Jude avatar addresses the debate. Here is that video:
